Andrew Monbouquette + Dan Susman

Andrew Monbouquette earned his degree in Rhetoric & Media studies from Willamette University, where the motto was “Not unto ourselves alone are we born.” Most of his coursework focused on texts and films giving voices to oppressed people and marginalized groups.

In addition to being a lifelong cinephile, Andrew has worked on several short films throughout college and in his earlier years. As a cinematographer, he has filmed over 200 hours using the new wave of HDSLR camera technology. For him, making Growing Cities is about serving his fellow Americans by helping ensure that everyone has access to fresh, healthy food.

Dan Susman’s work as a filmmaker and activist is rooted in his passion to make a difference in his community. His interest in good, healthy food originated while working on sustainable farms throughout college. His current project, Growing Cities, is a film that aims to inspire people to connect to their food system no matter where they live.

Dan’s experience as an educator, activist, administrator, and artist give him a unique skill set to address complex issues of environmental sustainability. Dan’s work has been featured in numerous publications including Treehugger, Sustainability Leaders, and The Progressive by writer Terry Tempest Williams.

Dan and Andrew are interested in becoming more involved with sustainable food issues in the greater Omaha area. Their community service focuses on a project called The Truck Farm, which is a mobile farming and education project. They plan to convert an old pick-up truck into a mobile mini-farm with which they will educate youth through hands-on lessons about food production.
