2012 Spring Fellow
Jackie Sterba
Sculptor
Since 2009, Jackie Sterba has been working on The Hybrid Series, a loosely gathered, ongoing project exploring the interplay of organic and man-made materials. This work is a continuum or evolution of ideas and the execution of those ideas. Awareness of thought, material and process inform change which in turn leads the work in a new direction.
Her fellowship with The Union will provide her with the space required to work on a larger scale and the impetus to explore new materials and techniques. Jackie's recent works are small scale studies for larger pieces that would incorporate forged metals and latex skins in addition to the waxes, found metal objects and horse hair that make up her list of current materials.
For her community service, Jackie will be volunteering with The UNION to help develop and implement an urban farming initiative on the land surrounding our buildings in North Omaha.
